Portland Relationship Center – Professional Training for Psychologists, Social Workers and Counselors
Portland Relationship Center asks, “Are you a psychotherapist who feels stuck, frustrated or confused when working with couples?” Do you sometimes feel successful mediating a couple’s issues, only to have the same power struggle resurface in a new arena at the next session? Working with couples can be so challenging that many professionals choose not to include this specialty in their practice.
Many therapists don’t realize that couples work requires a whole different tool-box than working with individuals or even groups, and that specialized training is necessary. Over 80% of therapists in private practice claim to work with couples, but of that number less than 12% have ever taken even one course in couple’s counseling. If you are practicing a specialty without specialized training, then it is no wonder that you feel less than 100% effective.
At Portland Relationship Center we feel so strongly about good quality couple’s counseling, that we have a member of the Imago Relationship International faculty on our staff. And for those who are already trained in Imago therapy, we have a certified Imago consultant to provide advanced consultations.
Maya Kollman, MA, is one of only three Master Trainers in Imago therapy and has trained hundreds of therapists to be competent and to find their work with couples so stimulating and rewarding, that they make couples counseling work the focus of their practice. Maya offers at the Portland Relationship Center both the Basic Clinical Training for those who wish to become certified in Imago therapy, and advanced trainings for those looking to go even further.
Tim Higdon, MS, LPC, has been an Imago therapist since 1996 and recently became certified in consultation. Tim works with beginning and advanced clinicians to hone their skills in advancing healthy communication and resolution to childhood wounds. Using collaborative consultation, Tim works with the therapist to understand not only the couple’s dynamics, but their own impact as well.
